Unfortunately, tooth removals are sometimes required. In some situations, an extraction is the best option to preserve your overall oral health. We perform tooth extractions carefully, and you will receive anesthesia to ensure your comfort.
Why Are Tooth Extractions Necessary?
In some cases, a tooth has become severely decayed to the point that we cannot save it. When tooth decay has damaged the structure of the tooth, it is best to pull the tooth. Similarly, if your tooth is infected or has become vulnerable in some other way, we may recommend pulling it. Rest assured, we will not pull your tooth unless it is the only viable option.
Simple Tooth Extractions
At our office, we perform simple tooth extractions. During this procedure, Dr. Lindsay will use forceps to gently remove your tooth. Prior to extracting the tooth, we will use local anesthesia to numb your mouth, so you don’t feel any pain.
Post-Extraction Care
After we have extracted your tooth, we will give you thorough instructions about how to care for your mouth as it is healing. For a period of time after your extraction, you will need to be especially careful with what happens in your mouth. The following are some of the things we may ask you to do in order to heal properly:
- Take prescribed painkillers and/or antibiotics.
- Refrain from smoking.
- Ingest mainly soft foods and avoid chewing on the affected side of your mouth.
- Refrain from drinking from a straw because the sucking motion can rupture the healing gums.
- Avoid strenuous physical activity for a day or so, and get plenty of rest.
Following these recommendations may help you heal quickly from your extraction.
